Chalk Paint Your Furniture
Is your furniture in need of a total makeover? In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Joannie Petroff of Pebble Tree shows viewers how to update your home and furniture using Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan.
What you’ll need: a furniture piece that’s a little worse for wear, cleaning supplies, paint brushes, drop clothes, Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan, wax
Step 1: Clean
Using household detergent, thoroughly wash the surface of your furniture. Remove loose paint or rust with a wire brush, sandpaper or steel wool.
Step 2: Remove Hardware
If your furniture has hardware, such as handles and knobs, remove those before you begin painting. TIP If you don’t want to remove or replace your handles, consider painting them instead.
Step 3: Paint
Next, prep your area for painting. Then, you can begin to apply the Chalk Paint to the surface of your furniture, and give it substantial time to dry before moving onto the next step.
Step 4: Blend (*optional)
For a three-dimensional look, apply lighter or darker shades to certain spots, and blend them in. Click here for an explainer on blending.
Step 5: Wax
Finally, apply a coat of wax to the surface of your furniture to preserve the paint job and give it a beautiful finish. If you’ve opted to paint your hardware, don’t forget to wax those parts as well. Click here for an explainer on using wax.
Step 6: Buff (*optional)
If you want to give your paint job a bit of sheen, simply buff the surface until it reaches the sheen you desire.
