Choosing a Carpet with Glen Peloso
Carpets are a staple in any home, but with the vast variety of carpets available, it can be difficult to know exactly what kind of carpet is right for you.
First off, let’s talk about nylon carpets, which can be lovely looking. Nylon carpets feel great and they are incredibly durable, but also come at a higher price point due to this high durability. The problematic aspect of nylon, however, is that it tends to be less stain resistant than other materials.
Polypropylene carpets have a similar feel to nylon. These carpets are great for areas of high traffic because you can get almost any stain out of this material fairly easily. These carpets are typically priced lower than nylon.
Probably the most luxurious carpet material would be wool. The feel is great, they are incredibly durable, and it comes from sheep – so it is a renewable resource.
One of the products that Carpet One recently came out with is something called H2O. With the use of this product, your carpet becomes completely non-absorbent. This is great if you have pets or kids.
There is also patterned carpet, which would be great in a little girl’s room, for example.
You can consider giving your rug or carpet an edge band, for a little extra flare, using burlap, or leather if you’re willing to spend a little more.
Finally, an important aspect of your carpeting that you need to consider is the underpadding. When you’re thinking about underpad, you want a base that is relatively hard. A really good underpad can take a carpet that’s not so great and make it last a whole lot longer.
