Cottage Kitchen Reno Stories
In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Marc and Mandy share fun stories from their cottage renovation. To hear about Marc and Mandy’s renovation adventures, check out the video above, or keep reading for some tried-and-true tips for renovating your cottage property.
Inspect the Bones
Before you start any sort of work on your property, make sure you have an accurate understanding of what’s going on behind the walls. Check for things like proper structural support, correct electrical work, water and mold damage, and proper insulation.
Budget Smart
Since cottage properties tend to be in addition to a primary residence, you might want to keep your budget on the low side. One way to do this is by working with the property’s existing features. For example, rather than replacing kitchen cabinetry altogether, look into getting your cabinetry refaced or replacing the existing hardware.
Invest in Appliances
No matter your budget, two things you should always invest in are quality appliances and plumbing fixture. These two elements will contribute to the “bones” of the home and the hope is that these two things will stay in good condition for years to come.
Embrace Color
While many of my interior design clients prefer to stay neutral in their city homes, they are often more adventurous to use a bit of colour at the cottage.
When in Doubt: White
If you’re not sure what paint colors will stand the test of time, go with white. In the setting of a cottage property, white is classic, timeless, beachy, and compliments the natural environment well.
