Creating a Homework Station
Every child should have their own area to do homework if possible. The amount of space you can devote to a homework station really relies on the amount of space in your home. Don’t use the kitchen table or home office. A homework station does best if it is only used for homework. Let your kid add personal touches to make it their own, so they will want to do their homework there. Here is a list of things you will need to set up a homework station.
Location & Basics:
- Good lighting (a lamp or well lit area)
- A quiet place with minimal disruptions
- Work area (desk or other flat hard surface)
- Comfy chair
- Supply area/bins
Storage/Paper Management:
- See through plastic bins for supplies.
- 3 ring envelopes for taking papers back and forth to school
- Book shelves (if possible)
Supply Materials:
- Writing tools (pencils, pens, markers, etc)
- Paper supplies (loose leaf, art paper)
- Art supplies (scissors, tape, glue, crayons, pencil crayons)
- Math supplies (calculator, protractors, ruler)
- Stapler, paper clips, pencil sharpener
This list is just a general supply list, feel free to add or subtract items that you think are unnecessary or necessary.
