Expert Q&A: Air Conditioner Installation
Today on The Marc and Mandy Show: Ask An Expert, Bobby Watt from Watt HVAC answers how to properly install an air conditioner.
Q: What are some common mistakes made with an air conditioning installation?
Bobby Watt: The number one common mistake is not having the right contractor. You want to make sure that your contractor is licensed, bonded, and carries liability insurance, and is also licensed in refrigeration. If he’s installing air conditioning equipment, he should be trained in air conditioning equipment. The number two common mistake is choosing someone for the job who lacks vision. Anybody can install a piece of equipment, but if they don’t know what it’s going to look like or how it’s going to function in the end, you’re going to run into problems. And number three is undersizing the equipment. In Vancouver, everybody likes to size the equipment for the average day of the year, but you don’t want to be left out in the cold or sweating in a sweat box in the middle of the summer.
Q: How can I get the most value from my air conditioning installation?
BW: To get the most value out of your air conditioning installation, for one, do not take shortcuts and do not use poor quality equipment. Essentially: do it right or don’t do it all. Number two: maintain your equipment. Get a preventative maintenance scheduled for your equipment. This will add years onto the life of your equipment and it will also save you from untimely breakdowns.
If you have an experienced contractor, a vision, you size equipment and use good quality equipment, and you use good quality equipment, then you’ll be in good hands and not run into mistakes.
