In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Experts @ Home, Mandy gets some tips for painting a house from Angelo Iantosca of Divine Painters.
Mandy: The next best thing to having your home professionally painted is advice from a professional painter. And I have Angelo here from Divine Painters to give us some tips on that. So, Angelo, if somebody’s gonna take on the task of painting what should they start with?
Angelo Iantosca: Well, one of the most important things that we recommend is going to shop local. I’ve been telling people this for years, you get much much better support in a local shop because this is all they do is paint. So, you know, your small retailer is going to have, for the most part, better quality products, better information, because this is all they do every day.
Mandy: I love it. Now, what kind of supplies do they need?
Angelo Iantosca: So, some of the things that are important to pick up when you’re there are some good brushes, some good rollers, masking tape, sandpaper, caulking. All the stuff that you need to get going and you’ll get that advice from your small little shop on what the best products to go with are.
Mandy: Perfect, now, for the different rooms of your home, there’s so many varieties of paint sheens and finishes. So, what do you recommend for the different spaces?
Angelo Iantosca: So, for living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, which are low traffic areas, we recommend a washable matte finish. And then, you’ve got your higher traffic areas like your hallways, bathrooms, kitchens. For those, you would want to go with an eggshell to a low sheen finish. And then trims and doors we recommend a satin pearl or a semi-gloss.
