Getting Home Safety After a Party
When it comes to parties and drinking, safety is an important consideration. Legally, if you host the party, you are responsible for making sure that everyone gets home safely. Here are some tips to help with making sure everyone gets home safely.
Tip #1: Always Have Several Designated Drivers
It’s good practice to have a couple of volunteers to drive people home if you are having alcohol at your party.
Tip #2: Drop Off Your Keys
If you do not have a designated driver or DD, make sure to give your keys to someone who is going to stay sober for the whole party so you won’t be tempted to drive after a few drinks.
Tip #3: Pack a Bag
If you plan to party hard and/or late, bring an overnight bag so that you are prepared to sleep over until you are sober and alert enough to drive home. In fact, make it part of your plans and everyone will sleep better. If you are hosting the party, make sure guests are aware that sleeping over is an option.
Tip #4: Use Public Transportation/Taxi
Try using public transportation or even split a cab between you and couple of people. It’s not expensive that way and you will ensure that you and your friends get home safely.
Tip #5: Walking Isn’t Safer
Contrary to popular belief, walking isn’t safer if you can’t drive after you’ve had a few. Stats show that on January 1 of every year, pedestrians get hit more because they are not very visible when they walk. Should you still walk, go in a group and make sure that the host of the party knows you are leaving.
Tip #6: Coffee Isn’t The Cure
It is a total myth that coffee makes you sober. Only time will cure that. Nothing else. A glass of coffee does not make it safe for you to drive.
