Healthy Food Swaps You’ll Love
In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, brought to you by Cuisinart, holistic nutritionist Alaina Yvon shows us healthy alternatives to popular dishes to add a healthy upgrade to your next meal including a mashed potato substitute using cauliflower, an avocado based chocolate pudding and a healthy salad dressing alternative. Keep reading for the highlights.
Pureed Cauliflower
Pureed cauliflower bears strong likeness to mashed potatoes, and is really versatile (and healthy) side dish. The key to pulling off this dish, is steaming the cauliflower, which mellows out the flavor. In addition to being a healthy side dish option, it works well as a neutral base for a cream-based pasta sauce. Simply puree it with onions, garlic, and olive oil and the cauliflower will take on the taste of your mix-ins.
Avocado-Based Chocolate Pudding
This decadent chocolate pudding could fool even the most seasoned sweet tooth. The recipe calls for three basic ingredients: avocado, coco powder, and maple syrup. The avocado gives that creamy consistency, and the coco powder and maple syrup give the sweetness.
All-Natural Salad Dressing
As appealing and easy as bottled salad dressings are, they also contain a lot more sugar, salt, additives, and empty calories than you might think. For an all-natural salad dressing you can DIY, combine soaked raw cashews, fresh herbs, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a food processor and blend. To soak the cashews, place them in cold, drinking water overnight. The longer you soak the cashews for, the creamier they will get. TIP Soaked cashews also make for a great cream-like base for pasta sauces.
