An area rug can provide a focal point in a room and tie existing décor together, so the importance of choosing the right one for your specific needs in inarguably important. Keep in mind that ideally you want your furniture to sit on top of the rug, so make sure you are purchasing one that’s large enough to accommodate your large furniture items. If you have a family, consider a rug with a tighter or busier pattern because it will be more forgiving when it comes to spills and messes. If you’re working with an unusually shaped room, consider a custom cut rug and coordinate the borders on the rug with the fabrics in your room.

Utilize the rule of three

The rule of three, when it comes to home décor, simply refers to grouping accessories in clusters of three. Keep this in mind when selecting decorative items for side and coffee tables, to prevent these surfaces from looking too cluttered.

Have fun with your textiles

When it comes to throws, pillows and other textile items in your living room, keep it fun, fresh and interesting by mixing it up, playing with varying textures, colors and patterns to create a vibrant look.
