Style Your Bed Like a Super Designer
Everyone wants to know how to get this look on the Marc & Mandy Show. Here is a step-by-step guide to recreating this look from Marc & Mandy Show expert, Lisa Loeppky!
We used a colour scheme of taupe, white, yellow and blue accents to create this beautiful bed.
1. Set up your nest by placing your bed on the focal wall in your room. Flank the bed with night stands and lamps.
2. Place a rug underneath your bed to create softness and add colour to the room.
3. Put on your bed skirt. Here we used a white netting for the bed skirt that was made from inexpensive curtains.
4. Put your protective mattress pad on your bed to protect your expensive mattress investment.
5. Place the fitted mattress sheet. We used 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.
6. We picked a neutral yellow white paint colour for the wall to co-ordinate with the yellow on the duvet cover.
7. Place your taupe flat sheet face down, wrong side up on the bed, then the yellow reversible banjaran quilted coverlet and then the Ikat Jaya duvet blanket. Fold them down layer by layer onto the bed to create the ‘waterfall effect’. Show off each layer by allowing the colour and patterns of each unique linen to peek out a little bit.
8. PILLOW SHAM PLACEMENT
FIRST LOOK: Balanced Pillow Placement
Place your “sleeping pillows” that match the sheet set on the first row against the bed. Then the two decorative Ikat pillow shams are placed in the second row. Finish the look off with accent pillows. Two – 16” x 20” blue accent pillows were displayed with a 20” taupe yellow floral in front and a 14” circular yellow pillow finished off the look.
SECOND LOOK: Criss-Cross Effect
Marc placed the grey pillow and the Ikat Jaya pillow sham in the back row and for the second row he reversed the pillows Ikat pillow sham and grey pillow in the second row. This is called the “criss-cross” effect for the second row. We finished off the look with the blue accent pillows, a 20” statement pillow a white textured pillow and a solid yellow circular pillow. As shown in the picture on the right.
9. ACCESSORIZE WITH THE 3 LAYER COLOUR CONNECTION
To create a 3 layer colour connection in the room we repeated the blue accent colour 3 times. Can you find all three? Hint: The blue in the rug anchors the entire scheme. The blue ombre blanket weaves the eye from the floor up to the pillows and the blue in the custom painted horse picture brings a colour connection up onto the wall.
We added flowers on the side table because every room needs flowers. The tea tray was the finishing touch. There is nothing better than a cup of tea and cookies while reading a great book in bed!
