Plan and budget ahead
No matter how economical you are, your renovations is likely going to cost more than you originally thought. This is why it’s important to put together a detailed plan, based on plenty of research and quotes from experts and contractors. Putting together a plan and budget well in advance will keep you from over-renovating.
Get multiple quotes for each job
Make sure you shop around for contractors. You want to make sure you are getting the best value for what you’re willing to pay. Always ask for reviews and references.
Know when to DIY (and when to bring in a professional)
While it can be tempting to cut costs by taking on projects yourself, there are some renovations that are better left to a professional. For instance, while a painting job is completely DIY-able, anything requiring electrical work should be left to a professional.
