RV Battery Maintenance
An RV is a big investment, so you want to make sure you’re giving it the TLC it needs to last. In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Donny Watson from Manitoba Battery chats with Mandy about how to take care of an RV’s battery.
Q: What are we looking for with our camper batteries?
Donny Watson: First and foremost, you want to make sure that the battery didn’t freeze over the winter time. Ice can form in the battery and pushes the sides out, which will typically kill the battery.
Q: What’s the proper way to store your battery at the end of the season?
Donny Watson: When folks are putting their campers away after the summer, there’s sort of a good/better/best that we go through. The good is simply leaving the battery where it is, charging it up fully before you put the camper away but unhooking it from the camper. So, take the cables off. Then there’s better, which would be actually putting a maintainer on the battery through the winter while it sits on the camper. And then the best would be to take that battery right out of the camper, bring it into the garage where it’s warm enough that it’s not going to freeze, and then still put the maintainer on.
