How long should roof shingles last:
There are many different types of roof shingles, but the most popular choice for roof shingles are asphalt, which tend to last about 20 years. Some other common types are wood shake shingles and fiber cement shingles, which tend to last about 30 years and 25 years respectively. Exposure to the elements can cut the lifespan of your shingles.
How to know when your roof shingles need to be replaced:
If the edges of the singles are curling
If there are any “bald spots” or missing shingles
If there are broken or cracked shingles
If you notice a buildup of moss or dark streaks, which could indicate algae buildup
