Debunking Acupuncture Myths
Is acupuncture right for you? Is it painful? Does it really work? For this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Breaking Myths, Dr. Susan Newman from Trinity Wellness breaks down myths about acupuncture.
Myth # 1: Acupuncture will hurt!
Dr. Susan Newman: A lot of people think acupuncture will hurt, but the truth is, the needles we use are very fine—about the thickness of a human hair—and most people don’t even feel them. And if there is any discomfort, it almost immediately dissipates.
Myth # 2: Acupuncture only treats pain!
Dr SN: Although many people are aware that acupuncture does treat pain, (think: muscle pain, joint pain, headaches, and menstrual cramps), what many people are not aware of is that acupuncture also treats internal conditions, such as anxiety, depression, infertility, lung conditions and more.
Myth # 3: Prescription drugs are better!
Dr SN: Studies have actually shown that acupuncture can be just as effective as prescription painkillers for many conditions and they don’t have the added side effects that come along with them.
Myth #4: Chinese herbs have mysterious ingredients in them and are scary!
Dr SN: A lot of people do think Chinese herbs are scary, but the truth is, most of the ingredients that we use in our herbal formulas are every day ingredients that we all recognize. Such as: mushroom, ginger, and licorice. The herbs that we use are ethically sourced and not as scary as you think.
