Dress for Your Body Type
Fashion Stylist, Nicola Loewen, shows us how to dress for our body type!
Knowing your body type and what works for you will make cloth shopping much less stressful. You’ll be able to walk into a store and quickly narrow in on those pieces that will flatter you best.
TIP: Ask a friend to help! When you look at yourself in the mirror, you don’t always see it but a friend can give you an honest opinion.
Kelsey: Pear Shape – narrower shoulders, wider hips
What you really want to do when you are a pear shape is two things; you want to draw the eye up and broaden the shoulders. We’ve given Kelsey a deep plunging V in the neckline which broadens her shoulders and added a statement necklace to bring your eye in. This draws your eye away from the hip area and up to the top. A blousier top, tucked into a pencil skirt, gives her a really defined waist that’s just slightly higher then her natural waist.
TIP: Don’t hide your hips. Most women will try to hide wider hips with a larger/loser size on the bottom. This actually just adds weight. By doing something a little bit narrower, you’ll actually look slimmer.
Stacey: Inverted Triangle – wider shoulders, narrower hips
What you want to do here is create a bit of extra fabric through the bottom. We still want to give her that defined waist to create an hour glass shape. To do this, we picked a fun party skirt with a proper fitted waistline. We paired this with a crop top that hits her at her waistline which really helps to define her waistline.
Carrie: Hour Glass – balanced hips and shoulders
If you have an hour glass shape, you want to show off the natural curve. We’ve done that with a gorgeous dress with a princess seam that accentuates her natural waistline.
