Physical Health
Probably the most straight-forward and widely accepted benefit of exercise is the physical benefits. Physical activity strengthens the heart muscle, helps to reduce the amount of harmful cholesterol and fats in a person’s blood, increases lung capacity, reduces blood sugar levels, and helps with weight control. Exercise has also been linked to a lower susceptibility to diseases such as cancer.
Mental Health
Regular exercise can lead to more energy and better mood. Exercise releases feel-good chemicals in the brain, which can help to foster a sense of mental wellbeing.
Social Health
In addition to being a healthy component in physical and mental health, physical activity in a school setting can help to foster important social skills. For instance, helping kids learn how to work together in a team setting. This is a skill that will benefit them later in life, in social settings and even in their future careers.
