He Said, She Said: Should Homework Be Banned?
In this special episode of The Marc and Mandy Show: He Said She Said, Marc and Mandy debate the pros and cons of homework in today’s school system. To find out what Marc and Mandy have to say on the matter, check out the video above, or keep reading for some tips on helping your little ones with their nightly homework.
Know the Expectations
To best help your kids with their homework, you’ll want to first make sure you understand the expectations of the school and the teachers at the school. You can do this by attending school events, such as parent-teacher conferences, to meet your child’s teachers. Make sure you ask about their homework policies and how you should be involved.
Designate a Homework Station
This can be anywhere from the kitchen to your dining room table to their bedrooms. Make sure the homework station is well-lit and quiet. If your child or children have the tendency to get distracted, make sure their area is somewhere where you can easily supervise.
Set an Example
If you’re noticing your kids are having a hard time committing to their homework, sit down with them and engage in some “homework” of your own, be that paying bills, filling out paperwork, or even making a grocery list.
Schedule Study Time
Kids benefit from routine and consistency. For this reason, try to keep homework time consistent on a day to day basis, within reason. For example, right after school, following an after school snack.
