Make Campfire Creations That’ll Wow Friends and Family
When you hear “campfire recipe” you probably think of s’mores or bannock. But there’s so much more you can create with easy-to-make recipes that make the most of the rich flavours and textures the fire creates. Impress your friends with these scrumptious glamourous treats and you may even get crowned king or queen of the campfire. But no need to fret if spending time in the great outdoors isn’t your thing — these recipes can also be made in an oven if you’re an indoor camper.
Banana Split Campfire Cake
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Makes: 8 servings
Ingredients:
1 loaf of cake (390 g), cubed
1 cup (250 mL) strawberries, sliced
1 cup (250 mL) banana slices
1 can (300 mL) Eagle Brand regular or low fat sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup (125 mL) dark chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup (125 mL) salted nuts, chopped
Directions:
Arrange cake cubes, strawberries and bananas in a cast iron pan or pie plate. Drizzle with condensed milk. Bake at 400°F (205°C) until brown, about 20 minutes, or cover with foil and cook over an open fire.
Remove from heat, top with nuts and chocolate. Let sit until chocolate is melted. Serve.
Banoffee Banana Boats
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Makes: 4 servings
Ingredients:
4 bananas, peel on, split down the middle
1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped chocolate or chocolate chips
1/2 cup (125 mL) crumbled graham crackers
1/2 cup (125 mL) Eagle Brand dulce de leche caramel-flavoured sauce
Directions:
- Stuff each banana with chocolate, graham cracker crumbs and caramel flavored sauce. Wrap in foil and cook in hot coals or in 400°F (205°C) oven, about 10 minutes or until sizzling. Carefully unwrap and drizzle with additional caramel-flavored sauce if desired.
