When to Replace Your Roof
In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Jeff Ehlers from Above All Projects talks with Mandy about when you should replace your roof.
Mandy: Every homeowner is probably going to come face to face with needing their roof redone at one point or another. I have Jeff from Above All Projects with me to give us some information and advice on this. So how do you know if your roof is going to need to be replaced?
Jeff Ehlers: That’s a great question. There’s some really obvious signs that your roof might be ready for replacement. Obviously, if you have any any water infiltration, any leaking into the building, that’s something you want to get dealt with very quickly, but really you can just go out into your front yard take a look up at the roof. If you see loose shingles or shingles that are curling quite a lot, that means they’re getting close to the end of their life. And if you’re seeing a lot of granule loss, so the little granules on the face of the shingle that give it the color, if those are washing down into the eavestroughs or showing up on the ground at your down pipes, those are very clear signs that your your roof is getting ready for replacement.
Mandy: If a homeowner realizes that they do need to replace their roof, it can be a little overwhelming trying to decide which contractor to go with. How do you go about choosing one?
Jeff Ehlers: That’s a really good question because a lot of a lot of homeowners have a lot of stress around hiring a contractor. It’s really important that you find a contractor that you can trust. It’s a big project and you have to develop trust very quickly. So the best way is to get a referral from a friend. If a company did a good job for a friend of yours, that means they can probably do a good job for you. Google reviews are also a really good idea because you can find out what their reputation is like in the community. And I would definitely encourage people to meet with the contractor ahead of time. Don’t just get them to to give you a quote by email or to drop it in the mailbox. You definitely want to meet with the contractor so you get a sense of just how they interact with you and so that you’re comfortable with their level of professionalism.
