Daisy Cake Surprise
DIY baking creations are a super cool blend of art and food, but are they doable? Taylor Kaye puts a cake-within-a-cake to the test.
You may have seen a creation like this one at a brunch where a super fabulous moms cut open the cake, and reveals a surprise inside – a daisy, a bunny rabbit or even a pumpkin if it’s Halloween.
Taylor is going to give this DIY a try with a daisy surprise inside. The first thing you want to do is just make your first cake. Taylor made a dark chocolate cake.
Next, grab your cookie cutter handy and cut out little pieces from your cake and set them aside in a loaf pan for later. Freeze these for about an hour.
After that hour’s up, you’re going to begin to fill a separate cake pan with batter. Mid-way through, place the frozen cookie cutter shapes in, and then pour more cake mixture on top. The batter doesn’t have to cover the daisies completely because the cake is going to rise. Then you’re just gonna put your creation in the oven for about 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
