Fun Lunge Exercises with Kathleen Trotter
The words “fun” and “lunge” are not typically mutually exclusive, but today on the show, they are! In this segment ofThe Marc and Mandy Show, Kathleen Trotter, author of Finding Your Fit, shares fun, alternative lunge variations to try when you feel like switching up your exercise routine.
How to do a basic lunge:
- Stand with your feet hip-width apart
- Take a large step forward with one leg
- The sole of your back foot can lift off the ground slightly
- Keep your weight in the foot that stepped forward and lower your hips towards the ground
- Keep lowering your body weight until the knee of your back leg is almost touching the floor
- At this stage, your front leg should be creating a 90 degree angle
- Use the heel of your front foot to push yourself back up to your starting position
How to do Kathleen’s BOSU ball variation:
- Stand with your feet hip-width apart
- Take a large step forward with one leg. Your front foot should land on the BOSU ball
- Keep your balance on the BOSU ball by engaging your core
- Keep your shoulders back.
- The sole of your back foot can lift off the ground slightly
- Keep your weight in the foot that stepped forward and lower your hips towards the ground
- Keep lowering your body weight until the knee of your back leg is almost touching the floor
- At this stage, your front leg should be creating a 90 degree angle and your foot should be firmly planted on the BOSU ball.
- Use the heel of your front foot to push against the BOSU ball and push yourself back up to your starting position
