Hair Removal 101
Let’s face it ladies; when it comes to the latest hair removal trends, we have heard it all! Let me break it down for you with pros and cons on all the hottest hair removal trends.
Shaving:
Starting from the bare basics; let’s talk about shaving. The advantage of traditional shaving is that it’s quick, you can do it anywhere that running water is available, it’s painless and pretty inexpensive. Unfortunately, shaving also offers a high possibility of ingrown hairs that can turn into red itchy bumps, there is a chance you can cut yourself and the smooth legs don’t last very long.
Waxing:
With waxing you have the option of going to a salon and paying their prices or buying your own wax from the store and doing it in the comfort of your own home. Waxing gives you longer lasting results with smoother legs for longer than shaving. Before you can begin waxing, either at home or at a salon, you have to grow your hair out so the wax can grab onto the hair; usually about ¼ of an inch. Waxing is painful, carries risks of cross-contamination (from the waxing stick being double-dipped into the same wax used by previous clients) and burns.
Depilatories:
Depilatory hair removal products let you literally wipe your hair off without any blades and it makes your skin silky soft and smooth with long lasting results. Depilatory products require a waiting time after application to loosen the hair follicles. A lot of these products use harsh chemicals that disintegrate your hair follicles and can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions on sensitive skin.
Body Sugaring:
This is my go-to hair removal technique. The sugar is made up of 3 all-natural simple ingredients: sugar, water, and lemon juice. It is applied at body temperature so there is no risk of burns and it works well with all types of skin including sensitive skin. Sugaring exfoliates your skin while your hair is being removed and helps work out in-grown hairs so they can be removed as well. Sugar only adheres to your hair and not your skin so you aren’t ripping skin when you’re removing the hair. This means you can go over the same spot more than once if there are left-behind hairs. Before you can begin sugaring, you will need to grow out your hair to about ¼ of an inch. Sugaring can cause some short-term skin irritation on sensitive areas.
