Work-Outs Anywhere, Anytime with Kathleen Trotter
No matter how motivated you are, physically getting to a gym can seem impossible sometimes. Today on The Marc and Mandy Show: Try This, Fitness Expert Kathleen Trotter, author of Finding Your Fit, shows us how to work out anywhere, anytime using fartlek intervals.
What are fartlek intervals?
Fartlek intervals are an unstructured approach to interval exercises. The idea is to run, jog, or speed walk faster for short periods of time, followed by a period of low-impact walking to bring the heart rate back to normal. Fartlek intervals can be used to increase stamina and can be done in a solo setting or with a group.
How can I incorporate fartlek intervals into my daily life?
The best way to incorporate fartlek intervals into your daily routine is to use people or things as landmarks when walking, jogging, or running outdoors. Simply spot a landmark of some kind (be it a girl in a red shirt, a
stop sign, or a storefront) and then run, jog, or speed walk towards it. Once you’ve reached the landmark, return to a normal walk to allow your heart rate to slow. Once your heart rate has normalized, pick another landmark to continue the exercise. You can also perform this exercise while on a bike.
