The Three Wave Approach to Cleaning
Sometimes, your space needs an extra deep cleaning and that can be overwhelming. Fortunately, with a good plan and a good method, you can clean up that messy space quicker and more efficiently. Try the three wave approach.
Wave One: Tidy and organize the space, and get rid of clutter. The idea is to remove everything that doesn’t belong, from garbage, to plates, to items that simply belong in another room. You can make this task swifter by organizing stations; for instance, a garbage station, a recycling station, and a bin for items that belong in other rooms. Start de-cluttering at one point in the room and work your way clockwise around the space, this way, you’re less likely to miss a corner.
Wave Two: Dusting, disinfecting, and polishing. Good tools to keep handy: a high duster, which is just a pole with a cloth affixed to the top of it, an all purpose disinfecting cleaner, a glass cleaner, and microfibre cloths. Again, work your way clockwise through the space, and make sure to clean top to bottom.
Wave Three: Floors and garbage. The third and final wave involves taking care of the floor as well as any of the garbage or items that don’t belong in the room anymore. You’re going to remove any cleaning supplies, garbage and recycling that you gathered up earlier. You want your space to be completely empty so you can begin vacuuming or mopping. When vacuuming or mopping, you want to work your way towards the exit point in the room. Remember, if you have hard floor surfaces, you want to vacuum or sweep before you mop.
Following this simple three wave approach will help you manage even the most unruly space.
